
| Sonja Drakulich's mesmerizing voice recalls Bulgarian choirs and the prayers of twilight muezzins. Her studies have ranged from classical Indian voice to Persian, Turkish and Balkan singing and she has toured professionally with both Bulgarian and Turkish ensembles. She began singing professionally at the age of 18 with the Long Beach Opera and continued her studies as a soloist in the Zhena Eastern European women's choir. She is a percussionist, hammered dulcimer player, sound engineer and producer. Drawing upon her innate artistry, she has created a distinct style in which she moves gracefully through a large palette of vocal colors and languages, while always remaining true to her unique and natural sound. Sonja has spent most of her time focussing on the devotional aspect of song and she carries within her a passionate and rhythmic style, graced with the power and delicate ornamentation of Eastern melody. |
