Gari Hegedus is regarded as an extraordinarily talented string player. This talent is expressed on the oud, violin, viola, saz, and sarod, and a range of other instruments including the setar, yayli tanbur, and mandocello. Gari's musical journey began with the study of Early European, Celtic and Bretagne music. These forms eventually led him to the intense study and performance of Turkish classical and ceremonial music. As a composer, Gari utilizes the Eastern modal system called Maqam. Drawing upon this foundation, he creates remarkably original, timeless music which speaks to both traditional and contemporary audiences. Gari's talents can be heard on many recordings, and as a guest musician in Bay Area performances, in which he is most recognized for his signature deeply soulful style and beautifully rich improvisations.
